Date A Girl Who Travels

I just recently read an article titled, "Don't date a girl who travels". As a person who is living in a different country, loves traveling and plans to continue doing so, I took some offense to the article. It wasn't a fair representation of us. It didn't help either that down at to bottom was a link to another article titled, "Date a guy who travels". Seriously, what kind of society do we live in?!

Yes, we might not be thrilled over dinner and a movie as a date, but that doesn't mean we'll be bored with anything you plan for us. Just be creative. I promise, that will make any girl happy not just one who travels. That isn't rocket science.

Yes, we won't go and party every weekend because we know where we can go with that money.  We may say no to spending money for concert tickets. Or maybe we won't. Maybe we can afford to do both. We've had a taste of other cultures and cities and probably still have a long list of places we want to go. If we're asking you to travel with us then take it as a compliment, because I can guarantee you we are all picky about who our travel companions are. I can also promise you wherever it is she wants to travel that weekend is far more exciting than your local club scene.

We might have switched careers or not even know what we want to do. Sometimes that's because in all of our travels we've learned more about ourselves than what we knew when we were asked at the age of 18 to decide what we want to do with the rest of our lives. We might take freelance jobs so we can make enough money to go on our next adventure. Or maybe we do hold a steady job, there are a lot of us out there who do. That doesn't mean while we're working those steady jobs we're not planning and dreaming of what our next adventure will be. We're not okay with just the status quo. Our eyes have been opened to how big our world actually is and we're not content with just staying at home for the rest of our lives when there is more to see and explore. We'll be the girls who show you how to appreciate life and live it in the moment. Because we know just how valuable that moment is.

Can you really say we've chosen a life of uncertainty when nothing in life is certain? In reality we've chosen to take the time we've been given and make the most out of it instead of living our lives robotically in the same day to day routine. We'll stop and appreciate the beach, a beautiful church, or anything that resonates with us because we appreciate the beauty in everything. If you want a day to day life of the same routine then we're not the girls for you, because we'll never be content with that. We'll teach you how to appreciate uncertainty and your daily life will be much more enjoyable.

Yes, we tend to speak our minds. If an outspoken woman is what you're afraid of, you're not only going to find that exclusively with girls who travel. We know how to respect people, but we're very confident in who we are. So pleasing or impressing people is not high on our list. It's a refreshing to be around someone who isn't concerned with what society or other people around her think. You just might find it's not as negative as you make it out to be. More than likely you won't hear the typical, "I hate my hair", "I wish I had a smaller nose", or "Did you see that look she gave me?" because we're confident in who we are and don't care what people around us think.

Yes, we might never need a guy because we've figured out how to handle life on our own. We can carry our own luggage, screw on our own fins, pitch our own tents, cook our own dinner or even pay for our own dinner. Guess what though, deep down we all want someone there to take care of us even if we can take care of ourselves. Don't pass by a girl who travels just because you think she won't need you. We may not need you to take care of us, but we'll need you for other things in our lives. If you take interest in our lives we will never be bored with you. As I said earlier, you might just have to be a little more creative than normal.

If you date a girl who travels I can promise your life will be richer and more enjoyable than it was before. Although, if you can't keep up with her and are okay with status quo keep walking by. Chances are she wouldn't give you the chance anyway. We know what we want out of life and we're not letting anyone hold us back from that.
